Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

When their antipasto arrived, they ate while they talked about their day.  Tina explained that she was more than certain that she wanted to continue with Shaolin/Peabody Pictures, but that she wasn’t going to forget about law school.    It was still something she wanted to do.

"I hear Loyola downtown has a part-time evening program," Bette suggested.  "I mean, I’m home most evenings before six.  If you could continue what you’re doing–working as a development exec and producer from home and-and I don’t see why you couldn’t, and then go to school in the evening.  Peggy’s happy with what you did, right?"

"She’s thrilled.  She heaps a lot of praise on me."  Tina laughed.  "Not to mention the consultant’s fee.  Jesus.  I was like, what?  Well, okay."

    "How much?"

"She’s offered me a flat annual fee of ninety-three thousand, plus health benefits, and entry into a 401K plan.  My hours are mine to set."

    "But it’s not salaried."

"She asked me to come on full-time, but I don’t know if I’m quite ready."

"You deserve it, Tee.  Really.  Take your time.  You’ll know what to do when the time comes to give your decision."

Tina wrapped her hand around Bette’s.  Being with Bette now was like falling in love for the first time.

"I’ll think about it.  I want to be able to have a normal life, though.  We’ll see what happens if we really go ahead with this adoption thing or you know, whatever."

A table cleaner walked up to the table with a silver handled brush and a small silver-plated dustpan.  He swept away the crumbs from the bread and moved away quietly.  Another man came up and said softly, "Are you finished with your antipastos?"

    "Yes, thanks."

The man removed the plate and used flatware and disappeared like a spirit in the evening.  Bette sipped her wine while Tina drank some of the Pelligrino in her glass.  After a few minutes, Tina said, "About what we were talking about at the cryobank, what happened with your parents. . . ?  I was thinking that maybe you should go see Dan about it.  You could just need someone to talk to and get all of that past out in the open."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
