Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

Bette shrugged.  "I don’t know.  I don’t want to keep rushing into therapy to deal with my problems.  I can get through it.  Anyway, when would I have time?  CU keeps me running.  I haven’t had time for any kind of social life.  When was the last time we did yoga or a good workout?  It’s been ages since Harrison came over to train me.  I’m running on fumes as it is."

Their waiter reappeared. "Have you had an opportunity to examine our paste e secondi menu?"

Bette sighed.  "Yes."  She picked up the menu and Tina lifted hers.  "Go ahead, Tee."

"Could I have the striped sea bass?"  Tina said.  She didn’t dare try ordering in Italian, but what she ordered sounded like it would be scrumptious–sea bass, served with herbs and a parsley sauce.

    "And you, Signorina?"

"I’ll have the Costata di Manzo alla Griglia con Broccoli di Rapa e Mosto d’Uva," Bette said in a fast, staccato, Italian.  She didn’t speak Italian half as well as she spoke French, but she could hold her own and she made it sound decidedly sexy.

Tina looked at her and thought, I don’t know what Bette just ordered, but I wouldn’t mind getting her spread-eagle on this table and eating it off of her.  She grinned at the image and then looked at the menu to read that Bette had ordered the rib-eye steak.

"Would you like to stay with your red tonight?" Pablo asked about the wine, while waving the sommelier over to the table.

"No, I think I’ll have a. . . uh. . . a Pelligrino as well.  In fact, you could bring the bottle," Bette said.

"Go ahead and get another glass to go with dinner.  We’ll be here a while."

"She says I can have another glass," Bette said obediently, looking up at the waiter.

He exited and there was a short awkwardness at the table before Tina said, "We don’t have to keep talking about this.  I understand.  Let me just put this out there–we know nothing about Marcus and his family.   We don’t know what traits Angelica might inherit from him or his family, but this I do know: she has my father’s nose and the Kennard family cheekbones—those same chubby cheekbones my aunts, uncles, and cousins have.  I see my Dad’s family in her.  Does that freak me out?  Do I think our daughter is going to necessarily have a problem with alcoholism because my father and other relatives did?  Will she do some of the horrible things Dad did when he was under the influence of alcohol?  No.  Will Angie have my Dad’s temper or be laid back like Mom or be a woman of conviction like you?  Take after me? Or will she be exactly like Marcus or Marcus’ mother, the grandmother none of us will ever know.  I don’t know.”

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
