Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

    10:00pm

Angelica was asleep in the small extra bedroom that lately had become her nursery on the days that Kit got to keep her niece for a few hours.  Kit marveled at her niece.  She remembered the first time she’d met Bette and her father had told her ‘this is your baby sister.  Protect her.  Watch out for her.  You two are going to have fun together.  There’s nothing like a sister’s love, Katie.’   She remembered looking down at Bette and feeling conflicted.  Daddy doted on the baby and he scolded her relentlessly.  Daddy lived with this new woman, his new wife, and anytime she brought up her own mother, Mama, Daddy would tell her to be quiet.  Kit recalled how lost she had felt then, but also how lucky to have a sister.  She touched Angie’s sock covered foot and bent down and whispered, "I love you, baby girl."

She walked out and down the narrow hall, passing her jazz posters, framed photography from famous artists as well as from Bette, and into the living room.  Angus had been busy once they’d arrived at her apartment making tea and had tossed a few appetizers from Trader Joe’s into the oven.  They were eating late, but they always did.  Actually, this was a bit early for them.  Kit had lived the life of a musician on the road for so long, but owning her own business had required some changes.  She arose early and was at work to meet delivery trucks in the morning, but there were still many evenings she ate late when she didn’t eat at The Planet, and she always stayed up so that she never had more than five hours of sleep.

"Is she still out?" Angus asked as he carried the tray of tea and a plate of various small bites into the living room.

He sat it on the coffee table, then sat on the sofa.  He poured a cup for her, adding two raw sugar cubes and cream.

"Oh, yeah.  I have a feeling that baby girl’s going to be a snorer.  She’s got some loud breathing goin’ on already."

He poured a cup of Earl Grey for himself and added a lemon wedge. "I hope she doesn’t keep us up all night."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
