Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

Kit smiled. "Ooh, I like the sound of that.  Daddy’s hot and ready for Mama."

    "You know it."

    * * * * *

    10:30pm

Shane and Carmen were fully clothed and lying on top of the comforter in their bedroom.  Carmen was holding a steno pad and a pen and busily writing.

"Okay, so I think we have everything we need to do."

"I know we’re forgetting something," Carmen said.

"Don’t worry about it.  We don’t have to have everything perfect when he gets here.  He’ll tell us what he needs, too."

Carmen looked at the lists she had made.  "When you register him, you’ll need to get the list of school supplies that he’ll need and we can go to the Target on Santa Monica.  It’s good that this is the end of the year practically so there won’t be a fight over who gets to claim him as a dependent.  Your Dad and his wife can claim him on their taxes this year and you can claim him next."

"You really think Dad and Carla pay taxes?"  Shane laughed.  "I so doubt that.  He probably figures he pays enough in sin tax for cigs and beer."

"Yeah, I didn’t think of that."

"Carm, I really appreciate everything you did for me today and even now with these lists.  I don’t think there’s anyone else I could have counted on for this kind of help."

    "Why’d’ya think I did it?"

Shane grinned.  "I don’t know.  Why?"

    ‘Why do you think?"

"Because there’s no redecorating to do in the house," Shane said in reference to all of the redecorating Carmen had done recently, turning a simple California craftsman-style home into a hacienda inside.

Carmen slapped Shane with the steno pad.  "No-oh.  There’s plenty of redecorating to do now.  We’ll have to turn that other room into Shay’s bedroom."

"Don’t you think that’s too close to ours?  I mean, I used to hear you and Jenny gettin’ it on in there.  I wouldn’t want him to hear us."

"First, when Jenny and I were doing it, I totally wanted you to hear.  I wanted you to hear what you were missing and try to come get you some."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
