    Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

    "If you’re ready to get your freak on, come over here.  We can be off the hook loud since there’s no kid in the next room."

    * * * * *

    Tina and Bette walked down the quiet street of Burton Way and then turned off onto Almont Drive, heading south to walk off some of their heavy meals.  At some point during the walk, they had removed their shoes and were both ruining pairs of sexy stockings on the pavement.  They carried their clutch bags and shoes in one hand and held hands with the other.  Soon, they headed east on Colgate Avenue and Bette broke contact to illustrate a story.  She animatedly revealed the ins and outs of university life.  Before long, they were on Burton Way again, Tina juggled her clutch and shoes, opened her bag and pulled out her small wallet, then tucked the shoes and purse under her arm.

    "What are you doing, Tee?  I really did go to the ATM.  I’ve got cash for the valet."

    "Uh, no."  They were still a few blocks from the restaurant.  "I-I want to show you something."  They stopped under a streetlamp while Tina squeezed her fingers between credit and insurance cards to find what she wanted.

    "What is it?"

    "Almost got it."

    "What?  Your Chipotle’s buy ten burritos get one free card?"

    "Ha-ha funny.  No."  She handed Bette her clutch and shoes.  "Hold these a sec."  She pulled out her gas card and a Macy’s card and finally what she wanted.  "Okay."  She took her belongings back and dropped her wallet inside.  "This.  I wanted to show you this."  She handed Bette the card.  "To me, this is what and who you are.  Everything else has been a very good imitation of the person you are, but not you."

    Bette looked down at the business card and recognized the light charcoal gray background.  Her thumb ran across the embossed lettering. "I-I. . .  Bette Porter Gallery,” Bette said nostalgically.  This was the second of three versions of her business card.  It was the 1996-1998 card.  In a strong, bold, Helvetica font, it said:

    Bette Porter Gallery

    Bette Porter, Owner

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
