Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

"You had three drinks.  I’ll drive."

Bette bent to pick up her purse and shoes.  "You haven’t driven in months, Tee.  You said you weren’t ready.  I’ll be fine.  You can’t drive."

    "Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten how."

They walked back to the front of Il Cielo and Bette handed their ticket to a guy in a red vest who barely looked old enough to drive.  He was tall and well-built, but his face looked so innocent and unmarred by the emotional scars of life.  He was definitely no more than twenty-one.  "I’ll be right back, ladies," he said.

A few minutes later, he returned with the car and he and Tina exchanged the keys for a five dollar bill.  "Thank you," he said.  He helped Bette into the car and then remembered, "Signorina?  I have your bottle of wine, too."

Bette had forgotten that she purchased the entire bottle and there was about a glass and a half left in it.  "Right.  Thanks."

He scurried over to his valet desk and scribbled something down quickly, picked up the bottle and ran back over to the car.  Tina was behind the wheel with her foot resting on the brake while they waited for the wine.  "You’re sure you’re okay driving?"

"Perfectly fine.  It feels good to be in the driver’s seat," Tina said.  What Bette didn’t know is that it was Tina’s secret double entendre for tonight.  She looked at Bette and smiled innocently.

Bette’s window was down and when the valet returned, she reached out for the wine, but the valet stuck his head in the window.  "My name’s Giorgio.  Well, Jorge, but here they call me Giorgio.  Uh. . . I think-I think you girls look so. . . I don’t want to offend you, but it’s hard to move my eyes away."  He smiled shyly.  Bette looked at him, quirking an eyebrow; she could tell this was his signature play.  The innocent, big, brown doe-eyes helped his cause.  "I just thought. . . I don’t know if you guys are friends or a couple . . . You know, wondering if  the two of you would like to get together some time for a little. . . some good times, you know.  Here’s my number.  He reached over Bette and handed Tina the five dollar bill she had given him.  It’s right there.  You guys can call me–both of you or you know just one-on-one–whatever you’re in to.  God, I’ve never done anything like this before.  I don’t mean to offend for real."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
