Laid Up: Another Season 3 – Chapter 29B

Tina looked at the number on the bill and smiled.  She really wanted to just head home.  "Thanks, then," she said.

He handed Bette the bottle and Tina took off.   "Free valet, woohoo," Tina said.

"He’s never done anything like that before?  Right."  Bette laughed and pressed the button to raise the window.  As she did, she looked at Tina and playfully accused, "Cougar."

    "What?"

    "You heard me."

Tina scoffed.  "Please.”  She gave Bette the longest, most wicked look.  “You’re cougarlicious in that outfit.  I think he wanted you," Tina said.

"He gave you the number."  Bette felt the jealous feelings that always lurked inside her awaken.  It wasn’t a full blown jealous moment, but she hated for Tina to get the attention of anyone else, especially men.  "I don’t know about that."

"Should I circle back and ask?"

    "Home, baby."

    * * * * *

Carmen’s hand came up the side of the bed from the floor.  She put her other hand on the bed and pulled herself up, stretched out her back, and looked down at the floor.  "I’m gonna get some water.  Want anything?"

Shane yawned and turned over.  "Nah.  Sleep.  Good."

    "Old lady."

That sparked Shane awake.  "What?  I’ve been on planes, rented a car, dealt with Dad.  I’m tired.  What the fuck?" she complained.

    "Joking."

"Yeah, but you weren’t."  She leaned on the bed and pulled herself off the floor, too.  Sitting on the edge of the bed, she turned and looked over her shoulder at Carmen.  "What?  Do you wanna go out?  You wanna go to Milk or The Catch or that new place SheBar or somethin’?  Are you gonna call that friend of yours you used to kick it with?  What’s her name?  Papi?"

Carmen was standing over the bed watching this rant develop from a seismic trace to a 5.1 on the Richter scale.  "What . . . the hell . . . is your problem?  I asked if you wanted something to drink."

Shane turned in bed, faced Carmen who looked so fine that it was hard to really build up to a fight.  "And then you called me an old lady."

    1. ‘ she looked at Tina and playfully accused, “Cougar.” ‘ – LOL – Tina certainly has come a long way from the first pages of ‘Laid Up’. – PortiaO, Thank you very much for producing all those wonderful pages!

    2. OH MY FUCKING GOD… that was … i have no words… i wish it didn’t end… that a scene i pray we see in the last eppy… loved it… and what a book you have here… it took a while to read… but i did…

    3. Wow, I don’t know what to say. The detail you give to each character and storyline is breathtaking. What a beautiful imagination you have. I love your writing so much that I even wanted Helena’s and Dylan’s past life story to never end :). I’m a little bit nervous that someting will happen to Shay before Shane can take custody. Who’s the mystery man at Alice and Dana’s wedding? A long lost relative of Alice’s? Wow, Bette and Tina, effing hot. Thank you so much for the update. Don’t be gone too long :)

    4. Portia… translating “thank you” into all the known languages on this planet wouldn’t be enough at this point. I know I type it, and I certainly mean it, but it lacks… I don’t know anything else to say but that, though. So, again, thank you. You manage to get everything in there, and I don’t know why, but the “Sweatin to the 80’s” line made me giggle, a lot. You have a very visual style of writing, I’m right there with the characters. I see them, hear them perfectly. I love the way you write, I love this story. Thanks (again) for sharing with us.

    5. Yes, you’ve got me googling folks that don’t exist. You’ve created an entire world, fleshed it out and populated it with people whose lives are fully integrated into it. You’ve made TLW, “Do what it (should)do”.

    6. I have totally been floored by this story!! this last chapter totally knocked my socks off!!! I’m so glad Bette had the change of heart about mo…. this should be really interesting! PPS

    7. I miss this story. :( It’s so awesome and realistic. And it shows so much growth in the characters while staying true to them at the same time. And the storylines are just fantastic. *sigh* Yeah, I miss this story.
