The Black Flag Ch. 23
Shane blinked a few time and pursed her lips just slightly, “I’m going to disregard that skinny runt comment, but you’re welcome.” Shane motioned down the road and started walking, “Lets get ‘em back.”
It was pretty much a unanimous vote that Shane had become their appointed leader and that Victor was her second in command. Each one flawed but where one failed to deliver the other would be there to kick their ass into motion.
“You gotta be kiddin’ me…” Diego stated looking through the iron gate to the monstrous mansion. The initials of “C.K” were scrawled out handsomely in metal on the iron gate, giving the pirates no doubts about the ownership of said mansion.
“Where are the slave quarters? I don’t see any back houses,” Shane said, two bold eyebrows coming together.
“They’re down below. In the basement. Not even a damn shred of light down there.”
Shane let out a huff as Carmen pressed against her back to peer over her shoulder. There were two large guards on either sides of the large Victorian style double doors, each with a musket in hand and a sabre at their waist. “I guess we won’t be strolling in through the front door.” Shane muttered slightly.
She felt out of place on land, she’d always felt much more at ease out on the water. If she ran into trouble, she always knew just what to do, or where she could run to. She was a master at scaling the rigging and- “There!” Shane pointed up to an open window on the side of the building. Climbing hydrangeas had been planted along the side of the house and were spiralling and intertwining their way up the wooden meshwork along the wall. The perfect ladder.
Shane crept along the side of the iron fence, far from where the guards would be able to spot them and began scaling up the iron bars. The intricacy of the designs making it an easy climb as the others followed after, dropping silently on the other side, one by one.
They scanned the area quickly before running across the open yard, making sure to keep themselves low to the ground and out of sight. The stars were already starting to shine and the black of Shane’s outfit made her nearly invisible in the dark, so Carmen had grabbed her hand, making sure she wouldn’t lose sight of Shane.
